FAQ
Why we call it a “Beam”?
iBeam.it (“I beam it”. “it” stands for “content to share”) You might use services like Facebook to share with your Facebook friends or Dropbox to share in Teams. But no service is able to share across different services and allow all friends to use their favourite service to share and receive stuff and constantly receive updates.
How to create a Beam:
Choose a folder or album and invite others to follow. Do not care whether they are members of your service or not. Followers choose the place to receive independently. The “Beam” connects the services - so every time a new file is added to a “Beam” all followers receive it their way.
Just think of Star Trek and you remember the quote “Scotty, beam me up!” :-)
We give you permission to share freely.
How long does it take to beam files to followers?
Up to 5 minutes total round-trip time for your Beam. We take up to 50 files for each check. We are polling your account for new files because most services do not provide trigger or events.
Are there any limits?
During our ramp up we only allow files up to 25 MB. We pause your beams on a daily limit of 1000 MB and/or 1000 files for 24 hours. After 24 hours we resume your beam and restart beaming files to followers.
Some of the free plans of the services like Flickr, Picasa, Facebook Album, Evernote have limits too. Find more information on the respective follow pages.
How can I see it works?
We do not move, copy, modify or delete any of your files. Your files remain in your chosen folder/album. Please sign in to iBeam.it and click on ‘my Beams’ to see processed files per beam. We count every file for each follower.
Are nested folders / subfolders included?
No. Nested folders and subfolders are not processed recursively. You have to create one beam per folder or subfolder.
What happens if I delete files from my beam (source)?
Once you add a file to a folder/album our service immediately sends the file to all followers who follow your beam at this time. We do not delete files at the endpoint of your followers because we are not able to. New followers will not receive deleted files because we do not save your files. So you’d better not delete files if you want your followers to receive them.
Why do you need my email address (other rights)?
Your email address is mainly used to notify you of errors occured. Some services do not provide your email address. In this case we request you to sign up first if necessary or to login with one of the common login mehtods (Facebook connect, Google Account, Windows Live ID, Dropbox Login). We do not spam you.
What if something went wrong?
If one of the services you follow a beam denies uploading or an error occurs we notify you sending an email with additional information and a download link to the files in question.
Is it free?
We have a lot of ideas how to let you pay for it :-) - but for the moment it is free to use. So please help us to spread the word about iBeam.it so please tell your friends, family and co-workers about it.
How to embed the iBeam.it-Button?
Add the button to your website or blog to let people follow your Beam seamlessly. Create the code snippet while creating your Beam by choosing EMBED IT on the third step.
